The Mountain West Conference yesterday announced that Fresno State and Nevada will join the conference in all sports, likely beginning in the 2011-12 season.
Both schools will depart the Western Athletic Conference and bring with them excellent softball programs.
Fresno State is the only school in the nation to be invited to all 29 NCAA Softball Tournaments. The Bulldogs have won 10 of the past 15 WAC championships, advanced to NCAA regional championship games the past three seasons, reached the Women's College World Series 12 times, played in the national title game four times and won an NCAA championship (1998).
Nevada has advanced to the NCAA Tournament three of the past five years and advanced to an NCAA regional championship game in 2008. The Wolf Pack reached the WAC Tournament championship game four consecutive seasons between 2006 and 2009, winning the WAC title in 2006.
Stay tuned for much more.
