Aggies, Rams fall in non-conference play Tuesday

There were a pair of non-conference games Tuesday involving Mountain West teams, and neither one turned out all that well.  Utah State and Colorado State both suffered losses to struggling teams with poor records.  The Aggies saw their 8-game winning streak come to an end in a 4-1 loss to Southern Utah in a game played at a neutral site in Provo.  The Thunderbirds had been 2-7 vs. the Mountain West prior to knocking off Utah State.  In Greeley, it was host Northern Colorado taking advantage of CSU miscues in a come-from-behind, 9-8 win.  Colorado State led 5-0 at one point in the contest before seeing the Bears rally very late.  Down to their last out, UNC scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh.  Two Rams errors played a key role, including the game-deciding one on a play that would have ended the game.  It allowed Northern Colorado to score the tying and winning runs with two outs in the bottom of the seventh.  CSU, which was off to the best start in school history just a few days ago, has now lost four in a row.  Southern Utah is 10-17, and Northern Colorado is 9-24.
