Friday Mountain West recaps
UNLV 4, San Diego St. 2 - In Las Vegas, the Aztecs stranded a season-high 14 base runners and the host Rebels picked up the win. SDSU out-hit UNLV 11 to seven, but continually left runners aboard in a frustrating defeat. The Rebels, meanwhile, got seven hits from seven different players, including doubles from Francesca Foti and Chrissi Omalza. UNLV reliever Janine Petmecky escaped a bases loaded, no out jam in the fourth and earned the win. Alex Formby took the loss for San Diego State.
New Mexico 13, Utah State 6 - In Albuquerque, the Lobos and Aggies combined for 28 hits in a game won by the home team. This was a game of runs and streaky hitting. New Mexico broke to a 5-1 lead before a 5-run rally by Utah State put the Aggies in front 6-5. From there, the Lobos scored the game's final eight runs in a blowout. Chelsea Johnson went 4-for-4 with a home run, double and six RBI to pace UNM. Mariah Rimmer also homered, had three hits and added four RBI, while Michala Erickson had four hits. Tess McPherson threw 3-hit ball in three innings of scoreless relief for the win. Losing pitcher Alleyah Armendariz struggled, allowing three earned runs and failing to record an out in the game after entering in relief trying to hold a 1-run lead.
Nevada 11, Boise State 10 - In Reno, the Broncos fell apart after nearly run-ruling the Wolf Pack in five innings. Boise State led this one 9-2 and had a runner in scoring position in the fifth for that magical 8-run lead, but it wasn't to be. Nevada came back with a 5-run bottom of the fifth to make it close. And then, for the second consecutive game, Boise State was unable to hold a 2-run lead heading into Nevada's final at-bat. The Pack scored three in the bottom of the seventh, with two runs scoring on a bases-loaded walk and hit-by-pitch by losing pitcher Mackenzie McGill. McKenna Isenberg, who was rocked early by a Boise State offense that pounded out 16 hits in the game, re-entered later and picked up the win.
