Mountain West teams went 3-0 in non-conference road games Tuesday afternoon, with New Mexico sweeping UTEP in El Paso, and Utah State beating Utah Valley in Orem in a single game.
The Lobos beat the Miners 8-2 in their opener, and came back for a 7-6 win in the nightcap. UNM's day got started off on the right foot with a 6-run top of the first inning in the opener. Mariah Rimmer homered in that game and then had three hits in game two to power the Lobos, who improved to 13-8. UTEP fell to 8-19.
In Utah State's win at Utah Valley, the Aggies were held to just four hits but made the most of them. April Brown, the starting pitcher for USU, helped her cause with an RBI triple in the second inning for the Aggies' lone extra-base hit on the day. A pair of UVU errors led to four unearned runs that were the difference. Noelle Johnson came on in relief of Brown to earn the win for Utah State, which evened its record at 10-10. The struggling Wolverines, who out-hit USU six to four, have lost 15 straight games and are now 4-21 on the season.
